Which Relaxation Technique is For You?
The world we live in today demands that we have some sort of relaxation
technique in place to deal with stress. Despite all of our technological
advances, we have more responsibilities and more problems to deal with than ever
before. To keep our mental and physical health from deteriorating, it is
imperative that we spend some time every day relaxing. But which relaxation
technique is right for you?

One popular relaxation technique is yoga. There are many different types of
yoga, and the one most commonly practiced in the west is called Hatha yoga. It
involves learning how to control your breathing while stretching the muscles and
holding different yoga poses. Hatha yoga works every part of the body, and since
you have to keep your mind on what your body is doing, it becomes a kind of
meditation. As a result, you become calmer and more relaxed as tension leaves
your body.
Massage is another wonderful relaxation technique. In Swedish massage, the kind
most often practiced in spas, the hands are used to deliver long strokes and
gentle tapping to the muscles and soft tissue of the body. Many people find the
human touch to be relaxing, and when your tired, tense muscles are gently
massaged, the result is deeply relaxing.

What is Guided Relaxation?
Guided relaxation is a way to reduce tension and stress through a presentation
of images, thoughts, or ideas. Your subconscious mind, where your thoughts and
emotions are stored, is open to suggestions, and when you present it with
positive and healthy images or ideas, your body responds by relaxing.

To get the most out of guided relaxation, you must listen in an alert,
open-minded way. If you go into the situation thinking it's stupid and won't
work, it might not. Many guided relaxation CDs use words and phrases that are
proven to induce a relaxation response. These are words that people tend to have
strong associations with, and your body responds to your personal associations,
rather than the words themselves. The more senses you allow yourself to use, the
more you will get out of the experience. Use your imagination and smell, see,
feel, and hear everything being suggested to you and you will be able to become
even more relaxed.
Hypnosis is a wonderful way to experience guided relaxation. You can learn how
to relax quickly and easily, anytime and anywhere, in any situation. You can use
guided relaxation to manage your stress, fall asleep quickly, or boost your
energy and productivity.

Get a Better Quality of Life through Relaxation and Meditation
Relaxation and meditation can change the way you live every aspect of your life.
You may have a picture in your mind of meditation as someone who sits for hours
on end chanting quietly. While some people certainly do meditate this way, it
isn't really the norm. Meditation is simply a way to calm your mind, which helps
to calm your body, too. Many people find meditation to be a relaxing way to
start or end their days.

If you're interested in relaxation and meditation, you should know that
meditation is something that can be learned very quickly and easily. You can
start out by sitting comfortably for a few minutes, focus on your breath coming
in and out of your body, and allow any thoughts that come into your mind to just
pass by like clouds in the sky. By practicing a few minutes each day, you can
build up your time and learn to focus your mind. It does get easier with
practice. This is not the same as vegging out; it's more focused and gets much
better results.
The benefits of relaxation and meditation are enormous. You will find yourself
less stressed in general, more productive, more energetic, and more able to
handle any stress that comes your way.

A Quick Relaxation Exercise
It's necessary to take care of yourself so you can be as productive as possible
and have a good quality of life, and a relaxation exercise is an important part
of that. You can't function when your body is full of tension and stress. Your
muscles start to hurt, which can lead to other physical problems. Try the
relaxation exercise listed below and see how much better you feel, and make
relaxation a part of your everyday self care routine.

Try tensing and releasing every muscle in your body one at a time. Lie or sit in
a quit, comfortable place where you won't be interrupted. You can even do this
at your desk as a quick stress reliever. Close your eyes and curl your toes as
hard as you can. Hold for a count of five and release. Now flex your feet to
tense your calf muscles, hold, and release. Do this with your thighs, buttocks,
stomach, shoulders, neck, hands, arms, and face. Remember to breathe while you
are tensing. Take deep, cleansing breaths, and when you exhale, imagine that you
are blowing out all of the stress and tension in your body. Remember to breathe
while you are tensing. Take deep, cleansing breaths, and when you exhale,
imagine that you are blowing out all of the stress and tension in your body. You
should feel more and more relaxed with each muscle group you tense and relax.
While this is a quick relaxation exercise, the longer you do it, the more
relaxed you'll feel.

What Mental Relaxation Can Do for You
Just like your body, your mind can get tired, so you need mental relaxation. You
may not even be aware of it, but thinking, worrying, and all the things that go
on in the back of your mind can get it exhausted. When that happens, it's time
to take a break and do something to rest your mind. You should set aside time
every day for mental relaxation, and there are several ways you can do this.

Try a meditation breathing exercise. Sit relaxed in a quiet place and clear your
mind. Just focus on your breath coming in and going out of your body. Don't
think about anything else but your breath, and don't try to control your breath.
Just let your body breathe naturally. Try to sit for as long as you can, at
least five minutes. You'll find that afterwards your mind is calmer and your
body more relaxed.
Empty your mind. Lie flat on a soft but firm surface and close your eyes.
Imagine a small black dot. Slowly increase the size of the dot until it fills
your mind's eye. All you see is black. Stay with that blackness for as long as
you can. It may be difficult at first, but with practice you'll be able to train
yourself to keep out any thoughts except the black. This gives your mind a
chance to be empty and rejuvenate.

Relaxation is Important for Everyone
There are different methods of relaxation. Many view sitting down with the
newspaper after a hard days' work as relaxation while others enjoy working in
the garden. For many sewing, knitting or doing crafts is a method of relaxing
the body. Relaxation means relieving all the stress from the muscles and
allowing the mind to relax and become attuned to all body processes.

When you choose to actively relax your mind and body you should have a quiet
place where you can relax for about 20 - 25 minutes. Start with the toes and
tune into each part of the body up to your head and relax each section. As you
do you will find that parts of your body that are relaxed feel heavy. Keep at
this until your whole body feels heavy. Concentrate on your breathing and try to
clear your mind of all thoughts. When you are finished with this type of
relaxation you will find that your body feels refreshed and you are able to
start anew.
Hypnosis teaches relaxation methods that you can use at home to help relieve the
stresses of your day. Relaxation helps to solve many problems such as anxiety,
panic attacks, phobias and even sexual problems such as impotence. Realizing the
power of being able to completely relax leads to a healthier body and mind. You
should practice relaxing at least once or twice a day and just before bedtime
helps you to fall asleep easily.
Relaxation is within everyone's grasp - you just
have to reach for it.
Meditation and Relaxation
Meditation and relaxation go hand in hand for creating a relaxed feeling in both
the body and the mind. Meditation is reflective thinking and relaxation is the
loosening of all body tensions. Using both of them together facilitates and
deepens the practice of intrapersonal, interpersonal and trans-personal growth.
You can get to know your body and you mind more fully by using meditation and
relaxation.

Meditation and relaxation help you to gain insights into your own character to
help with emotional healing and personal development. They actually refine your
skill proficiencies, creative performances and are excellent in helping to
develop personal and business activities. They enhance your inner capacity for
living with joy, gratitude, creativity and compassion. Working both together,
helps you facilitate necessary changes in your life and accept the change and
wisdom of your daily life.
You can use meditation and relaxation to change unhealthy dependencies and
actions into a more wholesome lifestyle enabling you to better cope with all the
stresses of daily life. You can lessen stress and pain and look forward to each
new day with discipline, courage, faith and honesty. Many who practice mediation
read from a series of readings each day or write in a journal to reflect on
their daily activities. This helps them deal with their shortcomings in a
relaxing way that does not develop into stress and fear. There are professionals
who can help with the process either by phone, in-office sessions or through the
use of tapes and CDs. Either way, mediation and relaxation is beneficial for the
mind and body.
